Michael C. Thorpe

Crib in Brooklyn, 2020

Textie, quilting cotton, thread

33.25 x 27.875 in.

This work depicts the front facade of my current residence in Brooklyn, New York. This is the first place I have lived on my own. I live above a tattoo shop called Electric Anvil Tattoos and right next door is a hardware store that I frequent for all my household issues. In my windows features some of my home decor. I have a vintage Laurel mushroom lamp which was my first big purchase after moving. There’s one of my basketball trophies from high school.

Thorpe is exploring the limitations of both social constructs and textiles by combining fabrics, imagery and language to evoke alternative perspectives on the human experience.
