Michael C. Thorpe

Xavier, 2020

Textile, quilting cotton, thread

20.5 x 18.5 in.

This work depicts my friend Xavier. He lives in Los Angeles now but we met many moons ago in Boston. Our bond began over the love of clothing and grew when we discovered similar interests in the arts especially photography. He currently has an art practice involving photography. This depiction features his new bright blue hair color which reminds me of super saiyan blue characters from the famous anime series Dragon Ball Z. Xavier is also the older brother of Titus.

Michael C. Thorpe is a visual artist living and working out of New York, New York, with a primary focus in textiles. His mother, Susan Richards, taught him the art and craft of quilting. Thorpe is exploring the limitations of both social constructs and textiles by combining fabrics, imagery and language to evoke alternative perspectives on the human experience.
