“Liberty II” & “Justice II” are the second edition of the diptych “Liberty” & “Justice” by Campbell-Lynn McLean. The two paintings depict shattered vessels on a brick patio, their contents (flowers) scattered. Admittedly, this scene leans on a vague metaphor, recognisable to the majority of viewers as ‘meaningful’ in one context or another. The red, white, and blue color scheme and titles: Liberty & Justice, invoke a myriad of national problems and concerns, of which there are many. However, due to the nature of a vague metaphor, It is up to the viewer to decide exactly what problems and concerns the shattered vessels are addressing.
