Julia McGehean American, b. 1996

Biography

Julia McGehean is a multidisciplinary artist and educator from Philadelphia, PA currently based in Boston, MA. She earned her MFA in Painting from Boston University in 2024, following a BFA in Sculpture and Painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 2018. For the past decade, McGehean has worked in libraries, archives, and museums; gaining experiences that inform her material and conceptual practice. She is currently a Teaching Assistant in the Painting Department at Harvard University.


In 2021, she was an Artist-in-Residence at Pink Noise Projects in Philadelphia and continues to exhibit throughout the city, including at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts Alumni Gallery, AUTOMAT Collective, Works on Paper Gallery, and the Esther Klein Gallery. Her work has also been shown at the Lancaster Museum of Art (PA), Volkswagen Headquarters (VA), Gallery 263 (MA), Morgan Lehman Gallery (NYC), and Pocket Utopia (NYC). McGehean presented her first solo exhibition in 2025 at Piano Craft Gallery in Boston, MA.
