Mondo: United! Curated by Campbell-Lynn McLean
July 3 – August 16, 2026
An Eclectic Group Exhibition Celebrating 250 Years of . . . ‘Freedom’
LaiSun Keane is pleased to present Mondo: United!, a group exhibition curated by artist Campbell-Lynn McLean. Opening on the eve of America's 250th Independence Day, July 3rd, 2026, this exhibition presents a gross survey of art and artists that holds a mirror to the inhabitants of America, in all their rich variety. Spanning a breadth of mediums, styles, generations, nationalities, and demographics, the exhibition explores, under the guise of sex, death, war, and sports – themes of: unity, individualism, community, autonomy, and reclamation – in the hopes of discovering a new sense of patriotism.
This exhibition features the work of Andrea Luper, Ariel Posh, Brooke Raven, Campbell-Lynn McLean, Isabel Couceiro, Jamieson Edson, Jordan McGirk, Julia McGehean, Kira Mastel, Michael Costello, Sophie Harpo, Virgil Tilks, and Yoorim Kim. Drawing its name from the Italian slang word "Mondo” which was adopted by 1960s shockumentary style films such as: “Mondo Cane”(1962), “Mondo Topless” (1966), and “Mondo Trasho” (1969), the show reflects a curatorial vision rooted in shock, sentiment, kitsch, and unity.
McLean wrote: “We are in the age of the internet, hyper-connected and super-divided, forced to contend with and within a surge of isolation, extremism, echochambers, division, unrest, and nationalism. Our individual voices are in jeopardy of being drowned out by all that is dis-united, un-American, and morally-askew. Let us, and by proxy yourself, be free! Come gawk in awe at the products of our strange nation! Nudity! Piss! Violence! Bikers! Sex-toys! Girl-on-Girl! Forgotten Wars! Doom! Gloom! Ronald Reagan! And some crap- melted by the sun in the back of a 2004 Toyota Corolla with Truck Nutz™ Bolted to the Front!!!
We all have so much to learn from each other. To remain as we are without accepting, or even understanding -who- we are, is impossible. Coexistence requires as much curiosity as it does conviction, the possibility of unity hinges on our willingness to look closely at one another with an open heart and to grow from these encounters. “
A celebration will take place on Friday July 3, from 5pm to 8pm at the gallery with grilled hotdogs!
FREE and open to the public.
