Wisconsin Medieval Tapestry is the artist's grandmother Ruth's garden, where she produced jam, pickles, and other canning fruits and vegetables to feed a family of seven through Wisconsin winters. In the tapestry, the horse reflects one summer in which a neighbor loaned the artist's family a horse to ride, tethered to a tree by the garden. The scene struck the artist as a grounded reflection of the famed Medieval Tapestries at the Met but set on a humble, real, farm-based existence.
