3-D Printed Stoneware Relief Paintings

Early in testing Sketch Pad (a software developed by Media and Technology graduate students at University of California Santa Barbara), I experimented with ways to create a drawing with drawing actually lines or coils that print on the tool path I create. I basically drew each layer of the 3-D print by hand, on an iPad, with each layer building up into a 3-D form. I then printed the collection of layers. The process is very much a three-dimensional sculpture made by drawing each physical layer, and then digitally fabricated through the 3D printer in clay. The work explores the in between space between sculpture and drawing, resulting in a tangible object, that was created by drawing.
