ON HISSING SUMMER LAWNS Opening just in time for the holiday weekend, Boston painter Campbell-Lynn McLean’s show celebrates the visual joys of barbecues, picnics, and friendly gatherings. The exhibition’s title echoes that of Joni Mitchell’s 1975 feminist jazz-pop album, “The Hissing of Summer Lawns,” and McLean, like Mitchell, uses the social summer setting to subvert norms. The artist paints barbecues with their queer community on their own front lawn, highlighting the comfort and companionability of chosen family. Through July 27.
